A Mortehoe workshop. A North Devon trade.

We are a small family run building company that specialises in timber works. From large scale oak framed structures to intricate joinery work, our attention to detail always shines through.

We are able to offer a turn key building service from design through to completion and provide our clients with a professional and friendly service to complete their projects to a very high standard.

Woodcraft Construction is a family-run firm based in Mortehoe, North Devon, led by Andrew Coll, a carpenter and oak frame specialist who served his apprenticeship before establishing the business. Between them, Andrew and Paula bring over 25 years of experience in oak framing, construction and joinery.

The work is rooted here in North Devon. From the workshop in Mortehoe we design and build oak framed garages, porches, extensions and bespoke joinery, and over the years that work has spread across Exmoor, the coast, and increasingly the rest of the UK. We run the firm as a family business, in a place we wanted to live and a building tradition we care about.

Today Woodcraft remains a small family-run firm. Andrew is the lead carpenter on every project, working hands-on from first conversation to handover. Paula runs administration, accounts, and is usually the first voice clients hear on the phone. We deliberately stay small. We are not the cheapest builder in North Devon, and we are not the largest. We are the one where the founder cuts your frame, and where you speak to the same two people from enquiry through to twelve-month aftercare.

Andrew and Paula

Woodcraft is intentionally small. Every project is led by Andrew. Every client conversation starts with Paula. That structure is the firm’s most important promise, clients deal with the people who do the work, not with intermediaries.

Andrew Coll

Founder & Lead Carpenter

Andrew leads Woodcraft after years of apprenticeship and self-employed carpentry work. He is the lead carpenter on every project, designs every oak frame personally, and is on site through the build. He works in traditional pegged joinery, mortice and tenon, oak pegs, no metal fastenings visible, and has built oak framed buildings across North Devon and increasingly the rest of the UK.

Administration & Accounts

Paula runs the office side of Woodcraft. She is usually the first person clients speak to, answering phone enquiries, managing project paperwork, and keeping the firm's accounts and compliance in order. She has been involved in the business from the start, and her work is what makes a one-carpenter firm able to handle the scale of project Woodcraft takes on.

We work with the same small group of trusted local specialists, electricians, plumbers, plasterers, roofers, when a project needs them. Each has worked with Andrew for years; each answers to us, not to the client. As the firm grows we may bring more people in-house, but the principle stays the same: the people doing the work are the people you talk to.

Where everything is made

The workshop is a former agricultural building on the edge of Mortehoe. Andrew designs and cuts frames here. Paula’s office is upstairs. It is small, considered, and entirely sufficient for the kind of work Woodcraft takes on.
