Builders and Oak Frame Specialists in Croyde

A 15-minute drive from Mortehoe.

Croyde has changed considerably over the last two decades. Once a quiet surfing village, it now attracts a particular kind of second-home buyer, typically professionals from Bristol or London buying their first property on the North Devon coast. The result is steady demand for substantial renovation and extension work on the older village cottages, and oak framed additions to the larger 1960s-90s houses on the village outskirts.

A significant share of our Croyde work is summer-only, clients want the build complete before peak surf season, which means tight programmes and a discipline about not overrunning. We are usually quoting Croyde projects for autumn-to-spring build windows for exactly this reason. The village has a higher concentration of architects we know than anywhere else we work, and several recent projects have come through architect referrals rather than direct enquiries.

Planning in Croyde

Croyde sits within the North Devon Coast AONB. Some of the village core is a Conservation Area. Planning for substantial extensions requires landscape-sensitive design. Croyde planning is administered by the same North Devon Council team as Woolacombe, same officers, same precedents.
