Everything we make is designed and cut in our Mortehoe workshop on the North Devon coast, then raised on site by our own team. That keeps our catchment tight and our knowledge local. We know the lanes, the suppliers, and the planning officers across the coastal villages, the market towns, and Exmoor. Pick an area below to read about the work we do there and the planning context that shapes it.
All areas we cover
Woolacombe
A 5-minute drive from our Mortehoe workshop
Woolacombe sits within the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a planning context shaped by sensitive coastal landscape designation and a high proportion of period properties. Many of the houses on the village outer streets are second homes, increasingly so since the early 2000s, and the work we do here tends to be either substantial extension and renovation projects on existing properties, or oak framed garden rooms and garages added to family homes.

Mortehoe
Our workshop is in Mortehoe, we are the only oak frame specialist based in the village
Mortehoe is a small clifftop village above Woolacombe Bay, and it is where we are based. Our workshop has been here for over 25 years.

Croyde
A 15-minute drive from Mortehoe
Croyde has changed considerably over the last two decades. Once a quiet surfing village, it now attracts a particular kind of second-home buyer, typically professionals from Bristol or London buying their first property on the North Devon coast.

Braunton
A 20-minute drive south from Mortehoe
Braunton is the largest village in the area we work, sometimes described as the largest village in England, by population. The work is a different mix from the coastal villages: more period property restoration, more substantial family home extensions, and (uniquely in our catchment) a steady stream of projects on the older streets backing onto Saunton Golf Course.

Ilfracombe
A 15-minute drive north from Mortehoe
Ilfracombe is a Victorian seaside town in transition. The Damien Hirst sculpture on the harbour, the renewal of the seafront, and a steady inflow of buyers from busier parts of England have created a property market where Victorian and Edwardian terraces are being substantially renovated for the first time in a generation.

Barnstaple
A 30-minute drive south from Mortehoe
Barnstaple is the regional centre, North Devon's only town of any size, and the work here is different again. More commercial and semi-commercial projects than the surrounding villages.

Bideford
A 45-minute drive south-west from Mortehoe
Bideford is the southernmost of the North Devon towns we regularly work in, on the Torridge estuary. The character is different from the coastal villages further north, more workaday, more period housing stock, less holiday-let market.

South Molton
A 40-minute drive inland from Mortehoe
South Molton is the rural market town between the coast and Exmoor, a different character again from the coastal villages. The work here is mostly rural: oak framed barns (new and restoration), substantial extensions on farmhouses, equestrian buildings, and occasionally a full new build on a rural plot.

Exmoor
Varying, typically 45-60 minutes from Mortehoe depending on location
Exmoor is a National Park, a different planning regime entirely. We work across both the Devon and Somerset sides, on projects ranging from single-storey extensions on traditional moorland farmhouses through to full barn conversions and (rarely, very rarely) new build dwellings on rural exception sites.

And everywhere in between
Beyond the areas above, we regularly work in Lynton and Lynmouth, Combe Martin, Chulmleigh, Great Torrington, and across the rest of North Devon and Exmoor. For oak frame supply, we design, cut and raise frames anywhere in the UK. If your project is nearby and not listed here, just ask.
